VOLUNTEER

“Cold hands, warm hearts” perfectly captures the spirit of volunteering at Holiday Lights at the Lake. Winter in Iowa brings its share of weather challenges, but last year's feedback shows that our volunteers often leave with a sense of warmth and joy! We are incredibly grateful to all who volunteered in 2025 and eagerly look forward to welcoming both new and returning volunteers for our 2026 event.

BUILD

We are seeking 15 strong individuals daily, October 27th through October 31st, to assist our professional build crew with tasks such as unloading displays from a semi, loading trucks, carrying displays, assembling frameworks, replacing or tightening bulbs, and electrifying and animating displays. Monday and Tuesday will involve heavier lifting, and we’ll be working from 8 AM to 5 PM each day, with a one-hour break. No special skills are needed; we’ll provide training with a smile and lunch each day. If you have gloves for carrying items or wire cutters, please bring them along!

If you’re able to help, please check the available slots below and sign up for the days that suit you. Holiday Lights at the Lake wouldn’t be possible without your generous time and support. Remember, Santa's watching, and we guarantee you’ll be on the "nice list" this year!

NIGHTLY EVENT

Nightly volunteer duties will include counting cars, helping with campground traffic, scanning tickets, handing out brochures and candy canes, monitoring the exit, and assisting with the flow of traffic outside the campground.  All shifts require standing outside in the cold, so please be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes or boots.  There can be cold and windy nights.  Reflective vests will be available for all volunteers, but if you have bright colors or reflective outerwear, it is suggested to bring them along.

Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.  Exceptions can be granted for students with written recommendations sent to holidaylightsvolunteer@gmail.com and permission from parents.  Exceptions can also be made if students come with an adult chaperone.  The student and adult chaperone would count as one.
